RERUN TO HOLD 8th ANNUAL THOROUGHBRED CHARITY HORSE SHOW

It’s time to saddle up for ReRun’s annual horse show—with ESDCTA-sanctioned dressage & NJPHA-pointed classes, the first of two horse shows during Racing’s Alternative Careers for Equines (RACE) weekend at the Horse Park of New Jersey, in Allentown on August 29, beginning at 8 a.m. The Standardbred Pleasure Horse Organization’s (SPHO) show will follow on August 30.

ReRun, Inc., a nonprofit adoption program for Thoroughbred ex-racehorses, with farms in New Jersey and New York and a chapter in North Carolina, announces its eighth Annual Thoroughbred Charity Horse Show. The show’s primary purpose is to showcase the capabilities of Thoroughbred ex-racehorses to be re-trained and excel in other forms of equitation. However, the all-day show includes open classes for all breeds.

Classes and divisions will include Dressage, Hunters, Jumpers, Equitation, Pleasure, and many more. Ribbons and prizes will be awarded in each class and there will be a champion and reserve champion for each division. Pre-entry fees are $20.00 per class and must be received, paid in full, by August 25. Post-entry fees are $25.00 per class.

At the end of the show there will be a “Battle of the Breeds” division open to Thoroughbreds and Standardbreds only. The two breeds will compete against each other in this 7-class division; $10 entry fee per class or $50 for all seven classes. The total of all entry fees will be donated to the organization of the winning breed. “We hope industry Thoroughbred and Standardbred people will come out to cheer on their favorite horse,” says Laurie Lane, President of ReRun.

To top the day off, the public is invited to join ReRun and SPHO for an all-you-can-eat Barbecue dinner: Adults $15, Children $10.

Sponsorships are still needed for ReRun’s show. Area businesses and individuals are asked to please consider being a sponsor. Sponsorship levels range from Major Sponsor for $1,000 to Ribbon Sponsor for $50. All proceeds from the horse show will be used to care for the horses on ReRun’s New Jersey farm. Monmouth Park, NJ Horsemen & Jockeys Select ReRun as Aftercare Program for Retired Racehorses

OCEANPORT, N.J. - The New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority and the New Jersey Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association (NJTHA) have selected ReRun, the nonprofit Thoroughbred adoption group, for an onsite program to provide aftercare for Thoroughbreds at the end of their racing careers.

The NJTHA will donate funds annually to Rerun to be used for the aftercare of Thoroughbreds based at Monmouth Park. The jockeys at Monmouth have also agreed to contribute $1 per mount fee toward the program.

“ReRun has been providing an invaluable service to New Jersey Horsemen for many years,” said Dennis Drazin, president of the NJTHA. “We are committed to making sure that our owners have options for their Thoroughbreds when their racing careers are over and pairing up with ReRun meets that commitment.”

“The jockeys at Monmouth Park and nationwide recognize the importance of an organization like ReRun,” said Terry Meyocks, president of the Jockey’s Guild. “The Monmouth riders are proud to play a part in ensuring the health, safety and welfare of our equine athletes.”

Monmouth Park will host a “Running for ReRun” day on Aug. 9, when humans will take to the track for a one mile fun run/walk. Proceeds from this event, expected to reach thousands of dollars, will benefit ReRun.

“We recognize as an industry that we all need to be responsible for our horses, both on and off the track,” said Robert Kulina, vice president and general manager of Monmouth Park. “With that said, Monmouth Park has always been in the forefront of providing post racing options for Thoroughbreds and we will continue to do so long into the future.”

Monmouth Park is a signatory of the NTRA’s Safety Alliance which requires participating tracks to establish an aftercare program for retired racehorses as part of the accreditation process. In 2007, Monmouth Park provided ReRun with an on-site office at the track to better assist owners and trainers in placing their horses.

ReRun, founded in 1996, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to rehabilitating and retraining ex-racehorses when their racing careers have ended. ReRun’s President and Adoption Coordinator Laurie Lane said, “We applaud this important step by the New Jersey Horsemen, jockeys and the racetrack to provide for their racehorses both during and after their careers.”
RERUN HELPS SAVE HORSES FROM KILL PEN
<------ Prospector Running and another mare saved from auction at ReRun’s NJ farm
Last week ReRun received frantic calls about six Thoroughbred ex-racehorses that were in the kill pen at Camelot Auction in New Jersey and heading for slaughter.
In this situation time is of the essence and Laurie Lane, ReRun’s President, quickly researched their racing histories, and in three cases was able to locate their breeders or owners who purchased them from the kill pen.
Bold Robbery, Prospector Running and another gray mare were directly helped by the ReRun organization who is providing transportation and boarding for them.  (All six were ultimately saved from slaughter!)

PLEASE SUPPORT RERUN SO WE CAN HELP MORE THOROUGHBREDS!!!
